fuckin hell

bladerunner was a monsterous revolution for sci-fi films. fucking fantastic. vfx are what they are today much because of the things they came up with on bladerunner.
god how many films have been influenced by it? how many mangas, comics, etc...
much like i said with alien, both are incredibly important to whats happened with films.

so what dont you like? don't like it because it actually takes time to tell a story rather then cram in as much action as possible?
so is he a fucking robot or aint he?

i saw bladerunner on the BFI imax showing of it a few months ago. some kind of digital remastering they did to it. it was sweet. fucking 8k massive reprint and the fx work they did still holds up and looks nice, 25 fucking years later.

I didn't like how they turned it into a love film between a robot and Indiana Jones, and that ending with the robot suddenly deciding, I wont kill Indy i'll help him up onto the roof instead of kicking him down. Also anything where they have to employ Vangelis is pooooooooor

/sigh
you didn't like that the robot helped him down? that was the point of the whole movie!!!! I'm going to guess that you don't actually understand the plot. and the love bit all ties it into each other aswell....
i'd watch it again..

Vangelis is poor?? fuckin hell. the soundtrack to bladerunner is fucking dope. unbelievable.

i'm going to go out on a limb and think you guys watched this movie for the first time, within the last few years.

bang on my friend

it wasnt i didnt understand the plot, or that i disliked scotts vision of the future that was portrayed. hell it wasnt even the acting i disliked.

it was the pure simple fact that i did not give a toss about any of the characters. indiana came across as a very weak and pathetic character, which made me not care for him one bit. rutgers char wasnt all that scary, and everyone else was just... wierd

i just didnt not like it nor care for the whole thing.

I saw the film about 15 times because I had to study it at school, I've got the same view as 5, it just didn't capture my enthusiasm for the film.

As for the soundtrack I think I'd rather listen to fido on the toilet constipated and with the runs on a friday evening tongue.gif

here's a few off the top of my head:

The Abyss
Catch Me if You Can
Kill Bill
Apocalypse Now
Brick
Lords of Dogtown
The Lookout
Heat
Collateral
The Big Lebowski
Dog Day Afternoon
The Mist
Stand By Me
The Princess Bride
The Thing
Twelve Monkeys
Crash (1996 Cronenburg version, NOT the 2004 piece of shit)
Edward Scissorhands
Beetlejuice
Pee-wee's Big Adventure
Sleepy Hollow
Fargo
Before Sunrise
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Evil Dead 2
The Fountain

hmm those all follow a bit of a theme.. course I pulled them out of my head. I'll have a look at my film collection later and add to it biggrin.gif
and I'd probably have most of monkey's movies on my list.. with the exception of Gladiator and Sincity, which were only OK in my books, and Requiem for a Dream, which I didn't really like (although everything else by Darren Aronofsky is fucking brilliant!)

i always kick myself when i forget collateral. its definitely one of my favs. i love the sense of realism and suspense it creates, and the characters are great.

i love the cinematography in the way it manages to capture la as such a beautiful and varied city... IMO

yeah that movie is shot digital, no film used (well i know its mostly digital, fairly sure there is no film whatsoeva)

really get the detail of the BG lights/buildings etc in the nighttime shots. looks real good.

Michael Mann tried something similar with Miami Vice, but fucked that royally IMO

Kill Bill
Apocalypse Now
The Mist
The Princess Bride
The Thing
Twelve Monkeys
Beetlejuice
Evil Dead 2

Ahh some ones I would have added if I'd thought of them - it's good to see someone that Raile put the mist down, since I've barely seen anyone that even knows of that film - I remember reading the book years ago and thinking it would make a good film.

Can't believe I forgot 12 monkeys ohmy.gif

Now.. Dead Man Shoes: I personally can't stand this film. More accurately I think the film itself is distinctly meh (even with a low budget) - the plot is predicatble and dawdles along with nothing to set itself above other films.

The reason I hate it though is because friends round here seem to think it's an epic film, but I have suspicions thas because it's deemed cool to think its an epic film rather than liking it on its own merits.

Apart from being a sad computer nerd, I'm also a book/film nerd - having spent a few years working in a cinema as a student.

As for blade runner, that was a film I got my hands on when I was a kid (which of course I was too young for) and thought it was incredibly cool. To be fair a lot depends on when you see a film - Halloween for example was a groundbreaking movie, however if someone thats seen all the films influenced by it saw it now it wouldn't be as impressive to them biggrin.gif

lord of the rings was a good movie as far as fx go. and UNDERWORLD(both and hopefully the third also) was freakin awesome. might be because of the chick though, not sure.

monkey, what is Dead Man Shoes? your comment made it seem, atleast to me, like it was on my list.. which it wasn't? did I miss something?

and yeah the Mist was fucking awesome. Up until the last 30 second of the movie which was absolutely horrible. I sometimes think I shouldn't include it in my list of good movies, but the rest of the film is so good, I usually try to get over the last 30 seconds. And when I say 30 seconds, most people think I mean the entire ending bit, but I don't. It's probably more like the last 10 seconds. I don't want to explain it tho it's hardcore spoilers!

Lord of the Rings was only good for the FX?? hmm didn't think the third one was as good as the first two, but damn, only the FX? damn. also, underworld was not very good. It was kinda like AVP. Two cool characters to put together in a film, yet done very, very poorly. the sequel was piss-aweful and in fact didn't even properly follow the plot of the first. how bad is that. the second sequel quite possibly will be direct to dvd.
I am still on my thoughts that Fido's movie collection should be burned.

oh and i agree about when you see a movie does make a big difference on how you look at it. it can be hard to see a movie for the first time, that came out 20 years ago, and take it for what it was at the time. i'm quite surprised noone commented on Pee-wee's Big Adventure. First film ever, and classic Tim Burton! Watch it for the first time today though and you'd probably be like WTF?

i liked all three lord of the rings. especially the battle scenes. but, most people did not like the plot. and underworld is still awesome to me, but its just ur personal opinion on what makes a movie good. i like movies with good visuals, and that chick in underworld gives me a good visual. rolleyes.gif . and i also enjoyed tropic thunder, espacially the part at the beginning where ben stiller was holding the dead guys head and then kicks it. lol. i guess u would need a sense of humor for that movie though, which most people are lacking. i thought rdj's role was very funny. made me lmao every time he said something.

lol, fido how old are you dude? I thought you were pretty young.. when have you even had a chance to be a drug addict??

my guess is that you have never had any serious dealings with drugs. Maybe I'm wrong.

I have most definitely had serious experience with drugs including many of my friends becoming drug addicts and even watching a friend over-dose and die in front of me.

None of that experience made me change my beliefs to Requiem being a good movie.................. sad.gif (and I love Aronofsky!)

whenever i watch an older movie from like the 80's or early 90's i wonder what it was that i liked about that movie then. movies have come a long way since then. just like games. remember the games we played on the atari 2600 and nes? lol. i can't even play those games now. we had to play some old pc games in class, they really sucked. laugh.gif

watched the mist over weekend to see what the fuss was about, not bad - ending wasnt as shocking as i expected, although it would have made more sense if they didnt have the cliche hollywood bit at the VERY end...

Agreed with the 'very end' bit, its better to just turn it off about 30 seconds before the end tongue.gif

As for games, you can't beat Fantasy World Dizzy on an 8 foot projector screen tongue.gif

Although I did purely fail at goldenaxe :'(

Technically since Bruce Wayne had not received a knighthood, he (or Batman alter-ego) can't be defined as a knight, therefore the film should be titled

"The Dark Business Entrepreneur"
