Since i'm a total noob at this type of game, i was wondering if any of the better players can provide some basic tips

little things you may take for granted that you have learned over the years of playing bf2 may make perfect sense to you but new players may not have picked up on

whether it be 1 on 1's, keyboard mapping, squad play, just stick yer Oar in here!

Well although I'm not as good as some of the other people about I would say that spotting people makes a difference because you can still see where to shoot if they go behind a tree etc. I never hold down the fire button to kill someone unless in close range otherwise I always tap repeatedly (this method made the L85 10 times better on bf2) and finally noobtube EVERYTHING!!

Out of curiosity is anyone usually medical mostly? I've shifted to assault which makes the game completely different to bf2 when everyone was medical and revives were a common thing. Would be nice to know who to stick around with in squad play.

yeah , some tips would be good !

i am interested to know how you guys are racking up so many points in a round , some of you guys rack up 5k plus in a round , i am lucky if i do 500, is it resupplying and healing that brings in the points or just a shed load of frags ? i need to level up much faster than i am now as i spend most of my time dead. any tips for point whoring ?

The 5k points bonuses are due to reaching stat landmarks for example the bronze, silver and told stars are related to the amount of kills with each weapons, you get other badges for things like 100 squad resupplies or revives etc. It's just a matter of playing enough until you reach these sort of stats and then a flurry of bonus points should help you rank.

If you go medic you can get more points for squad revs than for a kill, another way to earn more points if you are finding a round particularly hard.

The main downfall we always have is the sticking together rule - a squad that sticks together with say 2 medics and 2 assault would make an almost unstoppable force when up against opposing infantry. However this never happens as people always run off on their own and choose their own path.

Sticking to the outsides of the map looking in makes it easier to spot people out - like 6 says, have your spot button mapped so its in quick reach as it will tag the enemy so not only you can follow them in trees/building but so the rest of your team know where they are as well.

Unless your capping a flag or pinned down by a dirty vehicle, you should constantly be on the move with your squad progressing to the next flag. Even if your defending a flag you should be trying to force the enemy backwards by pushing forward.

Oh, and reload at sensible times (something i have yet to perfect biggrin.gif )

agreed on spotting
the only time you should ever kill an enemy without spotting him first, is if you are surprised by him or standing 10 feet away. otherwise always spot

also agree with 5. during the beta, practically noone was playing as a squad. as we all know from bf2 days if we go back to playing as a squad, then we will pzwn(!)

6...... just like back in bf2.. i see no reason whatsoever to play assault. yes you get a gl, but is it better then being able to revive people? i say no. get better at killing with your gun. near the end of beta, when i switched over to playing medic, i never played any other kit. it was just like in bf2 where i was raising everyone and no other squad could almost ever wipe us out cuz i'd just keep someone alive until all spawned in again and slowly wipe out the other squad.. i believe this will become the norm again eventually

I agree with what you're saying about a squad sticking together 5 and I do try but I can understand when people get lost from the squad while looking for cover due to nearby enemies. It's not like on bf2 where you know there are no vehicles but on this if an apc is camping on a hill and you can't see it people start running in all directions. I think its just going to take time for people to adjust to the game more.

On another note about squad play, please don't join my squad if you're intent on getting in an apc or tank because that can half your squad and when this has happened it means you have no support as infantry. I much prefer being able to play with a squad who are more about shooting people than fixing machines. Not a rant, just an observation about how I play, if you agree then please do join my squad, I know 5 will agree.

I agree that if everyone went medic you would do so much better then other squads, but I'm enjoying my m16 too much, now that I have the m60 medical ia more fun but its just down to the fact I enjoy assaut more atm.

not saying you shouldnt play assault if you are enjoying it.. just that it seems IMO that to win, we are going to be having a lot of medics..

and tbh if guys got good at swapping kits again, that would go a lot further towards having assaults in the squad being useful (right now guys seem to suck at swapping kits, myself included)

I had no idea there was a spot key. Well ill use that now. Really enjoyed the games last might and nearly hit lvl2 (Wooo). Did unlock the next Engineer weapon which made a big dif to kills. I have 3 days booked off work starting Thursday so hope to get a few more points in.

6 im with you, i usually leave the vehicles to other as I prefare to concentrate on Assault or engineer. Nowt worse than watching your teammates disappear into the distance in an APC.

I partially agree with the medics but atm im not willing to play with that god awful pkm to unlock the next gun - i said 2 medics 2 assaults because imo assault has a major advantage over medics which is the ability to blow holes in the side of buildings with the nubtube. This really helps when trying to flush people out of buildings who are camping, especially when the enemies are picking people off from the roof tops.

Yeah the medical class is good once you unlock the scope too. Got paddled for the first time last night if anyone is wondering if you can do it. I've still yet to unlock anything on engineer and recon but I heard someone complaining that the g3 can be used with any class as an assault gun but not unlocked that either, anyone else managed to? If its a good gun and you can use it with a medic then I'd like to give it a go.

Re: Vehicles... a squad controlling a vehicle is a very strong force. Tank allows main + gunner, APC allows a few passengers. However if a squad is controlling then typically you'd expect at least 1 or more of the people to be engineers and as such probably out round the back of the tank on repair duty and therefore spawnable. If you catch them on the offchance where they're all onboard you can always tell someone to hop out for a sec for spawning.

The spotting key Q has a harsh cooldown (it used to be 3 spots per 40 seconds, not sure what it is now) to stop people from either spam spotting on the hope of spotting someone they can't actually see or using those faggy macro keyboards to do the same. I usually use spot if it looks like someone is getting away from me.

Grenades, unlike the days of karkand are currently underused. Throwing a grenade in helps potentially soften up or disorientate people before you go in for the kill.

Myself, I've always been a noobtuber in every game I've played - oddly just finding something appealing about arcing long range shots. While I appreciate squad play and good teamwork improve your own, your squads and you teams victory chances I still just prefer the freedom of rambo'ing around going where the kills take me. As such I kill lots but I die lots too compared to people that go for teamwork.

I note there's also some easy points to be had e.g. equip tracer dart instead of a pistol, tacering a tank is pretty easy increase the damage dealt by AT rounds and gets you +30 points. Resupplying you squad with health/ammo gets you good points too, its good to spawm them ahead so squadmates run through them.

Finally: live to fight another day! I've often cheesed it away from hairy fights and hidden somewhere if I've been injured. Your health regens and you usually get a chance to reload before charging back in there again often with some newly spawned squadmates on you

thats a very good point about the live to fight another day..
now that everyone is essentially a squad leader (in that all can be spawned on), throwing your life away for just one more kill is sometimes a total waste, as had you lived for another second or two, your squad might spawn on you, and then you have a place to spawn back on them..

actually the bonus points from landmarks don't help you rank, i'm a bit of a stat whore and i always pay close attention to how my points increase, if you look closely after a round when the scoreboard breakdown is up, it's split into class scores and award scores

for example after panama canal i may get about 800 points playing as medic, a further 200 points for vehicle (sat as gunner till it blew up smile.gif) and maybe 50 points as assault (ran out of nades and died lol)
also i would have gained a further 200 award for 5+ revives as medic and ano 200 for being in best squad

in total i would have gained say 1450 points towards my rank score while only 800 goes to leveling up my medic class, 200 for vehicle unlocks and 50 for assault class

i'm not sure as to what the 400 from awards gets assigned to if anything maybe someone else can clarify

When I get big bonuses from awards I can see it added to my ranked stats at the end of my round, for example I've had a couple of rounds where I got in excess of 20k points, the rank bar then increases to the so much that the one round's points let me rank up in one go.

dunno about the main game, but awards were defo be applied to ranking up in the beta

my final two ranks (10 and 11) I got over about 4 or 5 rounds, as I was getting like 8-14k per round from massive awards/etc

well it usually takes me 3 rockets to take down a tank, so after the first tank i'm out of rockets .............the only way to get more is to either suicide or get killed

at least with recon and 2 c4 i can take out 3

Hmm, I dunno about survivability (I have a battlefield lifespan that mayflies look down on), but for points, I'm finding the engineer route can be good at times. If you get a half-decent driver who stays put while you're repairing his tank and someone else on the MG to cover you, you can potentially keep repairing the tank when its knackered for a nice big points bonus (something like 20 points every 2-3 seconds of repair). The pin badges for 7 'repairs' (actually 7 chuncks of 20 points) go a long way towards unlocks, and you can even join in with twatting other tanks with whatever launcher you have. Bear in mind that chucking a tracer on something also nets you 30 points a pop, and that even works on infantry (and looks amusing too).

Mines are persistant, so if you're not keep on throwing rockets about and generally blowing yourself up, lob a few tankbusters down in hard to see places, and let those do the talking. Be aware that you can also shoot them to make them explode, which can net you one or two infantry kills if they're blissfully unaware of the surprise they're camping on. As for guns... well... yeah. YMMV with whatever you choose. I've had reasonable success with the saiga when playing in buildings, but for open air combat, you might as well be lobbing peas at them. Its a 6 round shotgun that usually requires 2-4 shells to twat someone, so you'd better be quick on the knife button if theres more than one target about. Dont even think about trying to shoot down helicopters with the 3rd launcher unlock unless you've developed superhuman powers of precognition.

Well, I didnt intend on writing an engineer playguide really, but there we go. Consider it 'Cables guide to getting shot less frequently, and maybe ranking at the same time'.

I agree with cable from playing BC2 closed beta on PS3 i always found engineer to be the best way to rake points in. Team up with a tank driver and you can get squillions of points

...Medic + Full squad that sticks together = Moar Points

it's supa easy to run around sticking down medpacks and diving out from cover to do defibs and let the points roll in, a bit like a amusement attraction, bing bing Bing Bing BING!

also if there is a assault in your squad then you pretty much get loads of nades to spam

also later on when you get the horribly OP M60 then you can give serious gunner support

another tip is learn how to switch kits midgame, if your not playing medic and the squad one goes down then grab his kit and revive him!

also on a side note if someone has revived you and your now a diff class then it's a good idea to have played a little with the 3 useful classes ie med/eng/ass, not that i'm poopooing the recon class but i find a 12x scoped m24 useless when someone is less than 12ft away from u tongue.gif

you can switch classes and deploy ammo/meds then switch back to your original class

gr8 if your recon/eng and in dire need of c4/rockets or even a quick heal

Now that a lot of people are medic when I pick up their gun I can never use it so would love my beautiful m16 back after I rev people, otherwise I'm useless sad.gif hate the m60!

you just havent given it a proper trial yet. there is a reason everyone uses it tongue.gif

and tbh, the m16 is just as g36e as the m60.

Don't be such a fag, not every assault class on the field carries an m16 its always xm8, every medic ever carries an m60 (which from your bf2 days opinion = biggest unlock noob ever) and the ability to whore about as a medic make the class unbalanced.

im sorry, what class did you play as in bf2?

this game is way different to bf2 in terms of classes and weapon usage, the unlocks in bf2 had little to no advantage over the stock guns (with the exception being the g36e) - they were all pretty evenly balanced.
the xm8 is the second best assault gun imo, the reason people use it over the m16 is because they probably havent unlocked it yet (the m16 is the last assault unlock whereas the m60 is somewhere in the middle so more people have access to it).

in bc2, the only advantage of being a medic is the ability to rev people as the ability to heal yourself is pretty much reduntant because every class regains their health over a short period of time anyway.

in bc2 the pkm has little to no chance of beating someone using a saw or any other unlockable medic gun including the m60, whereas in bf2 you could just as easily take someone who is using an l85/g36e using your m16/ak101 - the difference being guns like the 185 had a sight so you could kill people at basically sniper range. thwe point being is that in order to kill others in bc2, you need a good gun otherwise you will get slaughtered (as proven by your use of the m16 over any of the other assault guns).

the m60 is powerful yes, but it takes more bullets to kill someone then any 40mmgl. all i was saying is that i dont get why 'you cant use it' - its a simple point and click gun just like rest of them.

it seems like they're nerfing it soon anyway.

Granted bf2 was different and yes I used medic only but with bc2 it reflects differently, you get your unlocks much faster than bf2 so people cam start being m60 fans soon enough, the ability to heal may not be as much of a benefit but don't tell me a squad of m60 whores will beat a squad of m16 whores. I've also seen pleanty of high ranks using the xm8 because of it being full auto, I wouldn't say it takes much longer between getting the m16 on assault to the m60 as a medic. And you managed to kill people at the same range with the m16 as I could with the l85 so although the scope was a benefit, it wasn't a noob addition. I don't know why I can't use it well yet but maybe it'll take time, I've adjusted to the assault class so much and I have much less fun being a medic as other people have shifted the other way.

i'll agree with K about a good squad and medic class

about the only two times I've played with 5, its often just me and him actually playing as a squad, both medics, and both usually the top 2 scores on the server

wouldn't even need necessarily 2 more medics... just 2 more guys who stuck with us always and we'd be getting even better scores i'm sure

Well you may be right about getting higher scores but I don't really care for that, all I ever want is a k/d ratio above 1. People have been going on about squad play for ages now and I try but its harder to stay as a squad in comparison to bf2, as with the gun debate above the game works differently. You're also talking town infantry only fan boy so at the sight of a tank I run away to a different flag and find someone I can have an equal fight with. I miss karkand sad.gif

i think you'll find that with both 5 and me being medics, we aren't exactly trying to take on tanks either..

and tbh dude yes the game is different but there isn't really any reason you can't stick together as a squad. unless the squad specifically leaves you behind..
5 and i, for the most part have been running around, getting in to a fire fight, raise the fallen, and wait 2 secs or so to get our bearings, and then run off again. once everyone is dead it shouldnt take you more then those 2 seconds to locate your squad mates and keep up. they are always on your radar!
shit, PR had NO radar, not even a map screen that had your squad mates on that.. and we managed to always stick together..

i think the real problem with this is, 6, that you have always been known to not stick with your squad too well.. even back in bf2! you've definitely always had a bit of a case of tunnel vision when you play.... ^^

hehe maybe so, but I am trying harder to play with a more team based effort. However I'm not going to stop going on my rambo missions because sometimes its good to break away from everyone and slow the pace down a bit.

id say this game is way easier to stick with your squad then bf2

likewise raile is the only person ive found who is a squad player, i find that when playing with him/as a squad you naturally get a better k/d (which youve said is the most important to you) because we rev each other thus meaning you die less....

imo thats the way this game is meant to be played and its certainly how i get most enjoyment out of it

Well I still dislike playing medic atm, and although you say its easier to stick with your squad on bc2 I find the problem is knowing where the fire is coming from to find suitable cover. It was much easier to spot people on bf2 because of the poor gfx in comparison to bc2 so you knew where the shots were coming from and could keep an eye on your squad more easily (sound fx also add to this problem in bc2). Being solo just works more for me, but I don't go solo all the time.

Correct me if I am wrong, but even if you get revived in BC2 it still counts as a death, it just means you get the ticket value back. So if that's the case you don't get a better k/d from reviving each other, just a better chance of your team winning.

keep in mind 6 that as you learn the maps more, you'll be able to keep up better too. remember that by the end of bf2, everyone knew karkand so well it was pretty much impossible to lose your squad unless you were trying to.

oh and realise too that you can play assault and stick with me and 5.. you don't HAVE to be medic. as I said though I think you need atleast 2 medics to be a really effective squad. and as you have done for me a few times, you pick up my kit and rev me.
that said, you should still get good at the medic guns, because there is nothing wrong with them at all, you just aren't used to them. likewise i need to learn the assault kit better. and when we both do then you can play assault and we can swap as we need to when you have to rev me...

its probably best to finish ur drink and get a fresh one before running across the map to engage in combat. otherwise you may find urself almost there and needing a new drink. and by the time you return from getting ur fresh full drink from the fridge your already dead and have to start back at the other end of the field.
just a heads up for those who do this like i did a few times last night tongue.gif
