Hi there. During a game yesterday, I was running out of spawn along with a few team mates and I stopped for a split second to adjust my volume. Consequently, a team mate behind decided to kick me. Now, I admit I intentionally team attacked the person who kicked me out of the way, ONCE (which he blocked thus losing minimal health) and did not persist in attacking him any further, proceeding to the objective. About 5 seconds later I receive a message informing me that I have a week ban for team killing handed out to me from Zeripper.

Now as I say, I did intentionally hit this team mate and I admit my fault, however a week ban seems a little heavy handed for hitting someone once? So I took to your rules and read over them. It says that bans are handed out for intentionally team killing (depending on severity) and I feel the length of my ban doesn't reflect the severity of the broken rule, and so here are my reasons for asking for the ban to be lifted/reduced in length:

I didn't kill them, I team attacked in retaliation (they were in fact in breach of the rules themselves, unfortunately I didn't catch their name because I didn't think it would escalate so quickly to a ban)

It was one swing, not a prolonged attack, I wasn't out to intentionally team kill them and disrupt the game

This is not an ongoing thing, I always attempt to play the game properly and never intentionally TK, I'm also the first to apologise if I accidentally TK. I'm sure my track record is clean, I have been away from the game for a long time.

I received no warning from admin and have never been warned by an admin on any separate occasions before. No prior kick, simply slapped with a full week ban for something not so severe.

Thanks and I hope this can be resolved! (And sorry for the bland formatting, using phone)

Regarding the 'no warning' part: it's one of the reasons we keep the rules clear cut and simple "No intentional TKing" and "No Racist Language"

Now we do specify these rules because it's sensible and the done thing. However unless it's a persons first day on the interwebs, the No TKing thing should not really need stating explicitly. Common sense and personal responsibility for your actions and whatnot.

Could we issue warning prior to kicks or bans? Yes, but should we? The admins aren't omniscient or omnipresent. Nor have torn banner seen fit to provide admin tools (or even the protocols so we can make them ourselves). So the admins rely on seeing someone TKing, which since they're playing themselves isn't a given.

So imagine you see two people on the same team fighting. Who do you kick? who started it? You could ask them. They'll inevitably blame each other. Always. Meanwhile that admin would be wasting their time trying to sort out the actions of these people disrupting the server and the game for that admin.

So the fairest and fastest (and therefore least disruptive to the server and to the admin) is just to kick or temp ban both rather than issue warnings. If issuing warnings how do you track this? I might warn someone for TKing, then leave the server. So unless I log every warning I've made so that other admins know a person's been warned or and so forth..
