Can anyone recommend me a good, not to expensive soundcard that will work with Vista. I only use on board audio and recently realised how balls it actually is. I currently have 7.1 with the onboard but never actually use the speakers to stem off wife rage at bass boom.

that depends ? do you actually want to use a soundcard to play through speakers? or to use as a medium to connect your headphones?
if it is the latter then get yerself a set of the usb inbuilt sound offerings of headphones with 5.1/7.1 sound from logitech,steelseries,roccat,razer etc if your interested i'll have a look and send some links -------------------- WIP...
