Having played a little bit more of Op flashpoint 2 (these opinions are primarily single player), I'd probably play it from time to time but it's not a great game.
I'll start with what I don't like: 1. The biggest gripe I have withthe game is the AI is retarded. On several occasions the ai jumped over sandbags or other cover to crawl in my general direction. Also AI in groups when shot at will predicatably flank - so much so that before engaging a group I placed some mines down parallel to them, moved back to their front and took some potshots.. within seconds they crept straight into the mines. Ordering your own squad poses an intricate commo rose with multiple levels. Navigating it would be difficult if it was of any use, since your AI squad mates don't follow your instruction most of the time. 2. The noobtube. My weapon of choice is great, so much so that it's overpowered. Using a combination of binoculars and a roughly 55 degree angle it was possible to take out targets around 1km away - no side to side deviation, like in arma. Which frankly is silly ![]() 3. Vehicles... I can only assume the developers have never driven any form of car.. they feel sluggish and vary between understeer or extreme oversteer when using thehandbrake. Also they are practically invinicble (I vaguely recall have to use a wrench icon on one once) - a jeep with no roof dropping off a sheer cliff and landing upside down (which should have the effect of cheese-grating the occupants) seems to do no damage. Helicopters feel like flying bricks. AI gunships are seemginly flown by blind AI - not once has one of these hit me. Also the 'order: mount my vehicle' seems to be taken as a recommendation rather than an order. Often I'd drive away only to find the rest of the squad elsewhere. THis is also apparent after I rambo'd a mission, got in an evac chopper but then had to wait as my errant squad (whom I'd be ordering to follow me at various points) eventually bothered to stroll in my general direction. Driving a car restricts you from looking around, I assume this is because of the driver wearing a sort of neck cast after travelling several hundred metres on his head after the car invariably flips when hitting a pebble. Particularily annoying because you can't look round to see that the squadmates you ordered to get in the vehicle are wandering around behind picking flowers or whatever the fuck they're up to. Securing the evac zone on the first mission in the campaign was completed by me running over the 8 or 9 enemy at the LZ in a jeep - they didn't show any interest of getting out of my way. This tactic would have put my passengers at risk if once again they'd bothered to get in when I ordered them...hmm.. perhaps I've got this all wrong and the AI is soo good that they're actually opting to disobey my orders after seening some of my previous reckless driving. 4. Rocks... lacking in the advanced military skill of 'jumping', rocks scattered all over the place pose a slight inconvenience. Vehicles either stop dead when hitting the smallest of rocks or produce some sort of super mega pinball effect, which is ok since the jeeps are practically invincible. 5. Changing weapons: I had some sort of gun with a grenade launcher on button 2 and a javelin (AT) on button 3. If my sausage like fingers slipped when selecting the gun/noobtube then I begin the process of assembling the javelin which takes several seconds. This process seemingly can't be interupted, so if when noobtubing enemy at distance one flanks you and gets close, try to switch to the gun, but hitting the wrong key is certain suicide. 6. The game pace is fine if you have an invincible jeep to ferry you about. If you have to trudge around on foot, it gets very tedious very quickly.. if your guys could run faster it would help. 7. Kill everything: it'd be nice if there was wildlife or civillians (maybe there is at later levels) - at the moment I take a stance of kill everything that moves. I've always liked the idea of employing unusual tactics to win fights (such as ordering a squadmate to drive a jeep into a enemy position after I sneakily plant some C4 in the back... hehe) but there's no flexability within this game... it's go here then here, blow this up, kill this. Win. Repeat. On the upside it's pretty, had nice drawstiance, is more intuitive then PR and more realistic than BF2 Overall.. it's likely to be a diversion from time to time, it had the potential of being great by is ruined by some glaring and inexplicable flaws. It reminds me in many ways of a milsim version of crysis: technically it's very good, but the game is a bit shit. Unlike crysis it lacks the novelty value of punching giants turtles in the face or blowing up chickens with rocket launchers. -------------------- ![]() |

Spot on. I thought it would be more interesting on MP but unfortunately that is thouroughly borked and I havent even managed to get into a game.
Feeling slightly ripped off. Where are the vehicle Missions? Where is the open ended exploration. Why cant my teammates hit a dude with a 50 cal at 20 feet. And why are there no lawn mowers on this island. Grass everywhere, plus its always dusk. And the AI is just retarded. I did one of the standalone missions (Attack village and hold). Doing the Rambo I legged into the village turned a corner and was confronted with 6 AI, all shooting over me at a barn. Thought "Ill just stand here and see how long it takes them to cap me". But after 2 mins my teammates finally caught up sprayed them for a further minute with light machinegun fire and managed to TK me as well. Priceless. -------------------- |
