Monkeys top 20 DayZ tips!

Firstly you'll die a lot near the beginning and not be able to find weapons. You'll die a lot. You'll get fucked off by server bugs and random hanging.

Zombies run quickly outdoors but slowly indoors. This means large buildings such as factory type buildings found near the docks are practically safe havens since you can run the zombies in, let them follow you in for a bit then run out, essentially losing them inside. Use this technique a lot smile.gif It's faster than crawling around all day and you don't have to waste precious ammo killing trash mobs.

1. Players spawn around the south coast, or the south-east coast. These areas have large amounts of zombie compared to inland.

2. The two main cities in the south are Cherno (Chernogorsk) and Elektro (Elektrozavodsk) - there's lots of weapons here, but lots of bandits (other human players) who'll often kill you before you know they're even there.

3. If you swim in deep water, you'll lost all your inventory

4. The sounds of buzzing flies indicates a dead human player nearby. You might be able to scavenge leftover loot, but beware, they may have been killed by someone else who's still hanging around. Sometimes bandits overlook their previous victims hoping for more opportunistic scavengers - it's much easier to kill someone crouching over a body looting them than one that's running around.

5. Press < or > to select direct communications. Using CTRL for voip, all players will hear you within a certain range. Some servers kick for using voip globally.

6. If you click middle mouse on a rucksack you find, the default option is to open it. To actually take the rucksack, scroll the mousewheel and 'take pack'

7. You can store more than one rifle. If you pick up a larger rucksack (like an ALICE pack) you can store rifles in here. Handy for backup weapons like the enfield, for which ammo is common. Additionally bandits holding you up won't expect this, it's possible to drop your melee/pistol/rifle and back away, bandits will assume you have no weapons. Wait for them to start looting your gear and equip your spare weapons and execute them.

8. When travelling with friends, if they are prone, walking over them causes them damage.

9. Health comes in two forms. Blood Transfusions - blood bags often found in hospital buildings. You can only transfuse another player, not yourself. Using a mousewheel while pointing at another player usually gives the option. Not sure whether bugged or if specific criteria e.g. they must have passed out once first. Sometimes the option to give blood isn't there. The other method for health is cooked food. You'll need wood (from wood piles, or use a hatchet to chop wood in forests), matches, hunting knife and an unsuspecting critter such as a lamb or chicken. If you're blleding, the blood icon will subtely flash with a cross, use bandages on yourself!

10. Dodgy stuff: some players Alt-F4 to insta-disconnect if approached by bandits, I believe technically you now stay in game for 5 seconds. at night adjusting the video options gamma levels helps you see better. Also turn off post-processing in advanced video options to get rid of the annoying blur.

11. When hungry tinned food (beans/pasta), when thirsty coke/pepsi. Alternatively If you've found a water bottle, these can be refilled from ponds and water pumps in cities. They can no longer be refilled from the sea. Jerry cans can be refuelled by the large tanks near petrol stations, not usually by the pumps.

12. If travelling in the rain and your temperature goes too low, use a heatpack if you have one. Or take shelter. If you get a cold, your health will drop to 6000. If you get a cold you can use anti-biotics.

13. Even if you don't have a map and compass, you can find north either by using the stars (find the north star after locating ursa major), use the sun or if you have a watch you can point it to the sun, and a line bisecting 12 o'clock and the current hour should point north/south (google this for info)

14. Zombies can hit you through walls, doors and floors. They can use ladders, albeit slowly and can swim. When zombies are alerted to your presence they start to snarl. They have difficulty with obstructions like barbed wire. They are distracted by bodies or by flares/smoke.

15. Some items take up more than one inventory slot (including weapons) eg. Jerry Cans (3), Car wheels (6) Main Rotor Assemblies (10) and box magazines, the M240 and M249(2).

16. If you loot an appearance e.g. a ghillie suit, this can be applied in the game options. They are not lootable off other players bodies, however they can be dropped by a willing player.

17. Torches attract zombies. When you have a torch equipped use L to turn it off and on. It's very good for singalling players or even blinding players temporarily.

18. When you look directly at someone nearby, if you hear a heartbeat noise, it means they have low humanity.. e.g. they've murdered a lot of people. Be very very careful tongue.gif

19. If you see someone call out friendly, if you get no reply kill them quickly if you can. If they say they are friendly, be careful as they might just be lying to get the drop on you. Typically those with no gear are more likely to be friendly to you.

20. The hatchet is odd to equip - once you've picked one up, open inventory, right click and romeve from tool-belt, then out of inventory press R to reload and hack away. The crowbar is sometimes bugged, sometimes you won't be able to swing it so I generally avoid these.

Additional:
If you find a tent, first be happy as you might get some free loot, but second be cautious before approaching it, especially if it is an open/easy to find area as it could be bait for a sniper.

Also if you can find a hatchet and a hunting knife then you are in a better situation as you can survive without having to go near zombie hotspots to try to loot food.

Wonder if the hacking is still a big issue with this game, guess it still is. Looking at the patch change-logs it seems they've added a fair amount in since I have played last.
